Pigskin Picks - Week Two Results

WEEK TWO RESULTS:
Well, she finally did it!  After many attempts, The Blogette has won Pigskin Picks with a record of 8-4.  She barely edged out tough competition from Matt Glowacki and Robert Peeler, who both finished 7-5 for the week.  Jim "Brutus" Beckman came in just under them at 6-6.  Considering his picks this week, it's a good thing that Wes still has bragging rights with his hole-in-one.....Once again congratulations to him on that achievement!!

WEEK TWO - September 8, 2012:
We are back with our Week Two edition of Pigskin Picks.  It will be tough for our pickers to go up against Matt Glowacki, if he is anywhere near the same form as last week.  Matt blew away the field with his 11-1 record in our season opener.  Here are this week's games:

Auburn @  Mississippi State
Vanderbilt @ Northwestern
Nebraska @ UCLA
Pittsburg @ Cincinnati

Meet this week's players:
The Blogette:  Last week, The Blogette shared her picking strategies but due to an extremely slow start, she has declined to reveal any thoughts on this week's match-ups.  In fact, she made her decisions in record time - a little over one minute.  She is a very busy blogger this time of year.  Her low-key picks:

Matt Glowacki:  Matt has earned the nickname Mr. Red Hot with his blazing hot picks last week.  All eyes are on him to see if this was genuine knowledge or beginner's luck.  He has assured The Director that he will be working on Saturday, Sept. 15 if anyone wants to drop by Thirsty Fellow while gearing up to play in The Invitational on the 17th.  Eveyone, including Matt, has time to re-charge before tournament play begins.  His picks:

Jim Beckman:  aka "Brutus" jumps into the competition this week.  The Director's brother is coming off of a road trip from Florida to Illiniois and Ohio and back, barely missing the hurricane warnings last week.  When interviewed via telephone about his golf game, Jim says he is coming to Spring Valley to claim the top spot in his division.  Wife Rhonda made an interesting but not printable remark in the background when she heard this response!  Jim says he and his Road Warrior teammate Dick Sutton have been practicing drinking early in the morning so they will be ready for this road trip.  You can do that when you're retired!  His picks:

Wes Gentry:  This old-timer is no stranger to The Blog, and has participated in some of our other contests.  After many years of playing the game, Wes recorded his first hole-in-one on Sept. 2nd.  Playing his home course, The Palmetto Club in Aiken, he aced the 16th hole, which measures 175 yards with a 7-wood.  We believe Wes is still celebrating, but managed to take a time-out to make his picks for this week's games.  His picks:

Robert Peeler:  This Clemson Tiger is fresh off of a four-day caddying gig at Woodcreek Farms NGA Hooters event for his tour boss Chip Deason.  Robert managed to lug the bag on Saturday and then drive to Atlanta to see his Tigers beat the Tigers, making it back in time for the 8:00 am Sunday tee time.  Robert sent his picks in after a couple of days' recuperation.  His picks:
Georgia                           W

Wrens, GA Golfers Enter the Field...Feelin' Fine!

Rick Hopper (pictured below left) is the captain of this long-hitting team.  These three peaches from the Peach State are very confident that they can easily break the Invitational record of eleven under par.  Their goal is eighteen under par.  Those of you who have played in our tournament know just how ambitious this sounds!  Jason Burton (the big guy in the center) and Robby Rooks (at right) complete the team roster.  Rick owns The Four Seasons Golf Club in Wrens, GA which allows these guys a lot of opportunities to practice their game.  They are all frequent players on the GolfWeek Amateur Tour in the Augusta area, and have a lot of expereince playing together as a team.  According to Rick, they are good at "backing each other up on the golf course".  They are excited about playing the Spring Valley track, and Jason has been assured that Carrabba's Italian Grill will bring enough tasty food to satisfy his post-play appetite!  With all the entries coming in, The Director says The Invitational is shaping up to be a great event with many competitive teams.  Eleven days until tee off!!
